Hooray for food, for it is surely one of the best things in life. Well, food, and those little furry thingys which you put on the bottom of your chair's legs so that they won't scrape the hardwood floor.

Sometimes, though, a food which you enjoy suddenly disappears from the shelves, and you come to the horrible realisation that every time in the future that you have a craving for it, the craving will go unfulfilled. So busy are these companies coming up with stupid ideas like white chocolate M&Ms, honey and soy thins potato crisps, and thirty different varieties of Tim Tams, that they shove the classics aside, hoping that no-one will notice. Well, someone did notice, and they're not happy about it!

But, given my relative powerlessness over food companies, my only attack is the following; a tribute to foods once loved, and now lost. With help from some guest authors who are as fussy about their food as I am.

Muncheros
Most missed by: Me

Little curls of corn chip, with delicious flavour, that were apparently made by pushing the raw mixture through pressurised pipes (according to something I read on a web site that no longer exists). You remember the ad: "munch on Muncheros, munch, munch, munch, munch on Muncheros" (to the tune of Guantanamera).

Muncheros weren't like any other savoury snack out there - they were a billion times nicer than regular corn chips, and, dare I say it, even nicer than Pringles. How I miss them. I've tried to fill the hole left by their absence with any number of crisp savoury treats (lord knows how I've tried), but it's just not the same.

Egg Flip Big M
Most missed by: Paul Cowan

The goodness of milk mixed with the yumminess of egg. It takes a certain kind of person to sit around a "Milk Flavour Brainstorming Think-tank" table and say "Hang on... I've got it! Egg!", and put up with the naysayers. A certain level of bravery, of derring-do, of never-say-die tenacity. I salute you, unknown Victorian Dairy Industry Association visionary. Sure, your idea was impractical - only available in the smaller, 250mL UHT-treated packages, due to the unpleasant side-effects of allowing a larger (but infinitely yummier) 600mL, regular-milk egg-and-dairy product to go past its use-by date - but for many years, you stuck in there, resisting the frequent attempts to 86 your quality niche product. Sure, it vanished occasionally - I like to think that this was when you went on holiday and they tried to sneak one by you - but as soon as you got back to your desk, Egg Flip Big M came back, as tasty as ever.

I don't know why it eventually vanished for good; I can only assume that you are dead or missing. Perhaps the shifty bastard at the other desk who came up with "Choc Orange" offed you in order to get rid of the most brave and loyal opposition to his nefarious jaffa-rip-off; perhaps you died of salmonella after leaving one of your own egg-flip creations sitting in the sun too long. Either way, I'm sure you died with your boots on. Vale, o noble milk-industry icon. A grateful nation mourns you.

Aniseed Tic-Tacs
Most missed by: Andrew Jacobs

I swear these existed, but no-one believes me. I remember my mum bought some for me when we went shopping once as a "treat". Far from it, I'm afraid. They came in the same little plastic dispenser that modern-day Tic-Tac's come in, but it was brown-coloured. They were absolutely disgusting, but at least they didn't have an annoying ad campaign accompanying them like today's Tic-Tacs do. I want to see them come back, just so I can prove to everyone that they really did exist.

McDonald's McFeast burgers
Most missed by: Lara Cowan

I loved McFeasts. They were the closest thing American fast food can offer to the good old Aussie hamburger, and then they took them off the menu and replaced them with McFeast "Deluxe". "Deluxe" my ass. To make a perfectly fine burger that anyone would be happy to stave off hunger pains with "Deluxe", they added what else but "Deluxe" sauce - which was not a variation on a tomato-type sauce, but a creamy mayonnaise (to which, by the way, I personally believe they had added the left-over pickles that people so kindly return in their napkins). They also ceased cooking the onion, which wouldn't usually bother me, but cooked onion in burgers is just what you do: you throw the burger on the grill/BBQ/frypan and chuck in the onion to brown up too. This just seemed like laziness on McDonald's part, and whilst I don't expect a fast food chain the size of Maccas to care about browning onions, it just added insult to injury on the "changing my favourite burger" front.

So what did I do when my favourite burger ceased being an option on the McDonald's menu? I took my friend Nicole's advice. Having, in her youth, worked at one of Ronald's fine restaurants Nic was able to inform me that the greasy haired kid behind the counter is obliged to provided me with a burger, containing whatever ingredients I requested. So for several months I asked for the "old type" McFeast - with cooked onion and tomato sauce, not "Deluxe". This worked fine, until the guy behind the counter played dumb (or maybe he really was - sorry), and asked me to list the ingredients. Having done this, I received a McFeast Deluxe with tomato sauce! I had tried the new McFeast Deluxe before I started asking for my old favourite, and as disgusting as the "Deluxe" sauce was, that was nothing to compare with "Deluxe" sauce AND tomato sauce.

So the McFeast Deluxe was only short lived on the menu, and pretty soon asking for, and listing, the ingredients of an old-fashioned McFeast became tedious, so the McOz became my new usual. But sometimes I do really miss the old McFeast. So I go to Hungry Jacks and ask for the Whopper, with cheese, cooked onion, no mayonnaise. They're used to people asking for their burgers different ways and, while I'm changing it, I can also say what I believe most people do when they remember - "NO PICKLE!".

Pizza Subs
Most missed by: Paul Cowan

Oh, the McCain Pizza Sub was truly a thing to behold. This wasn't a boring old ‘pizza sub’ of the type pushed by Subway and similar sandwich chains, oh no. A bread roll with pizza-like toppings on it isn't a true ‘pizza sub’ at all — it's a pizza-themed roll, at best.

No, the McCain pizza sub was a frozen pizza: but not just any frozen pizza. A regular frozen pizza is a quarter-inch thick slab of powdery, crumbly dough, covered with the bare legal minimum of toppings, which emerges from the oven as a chalky, crunchy, goopy, disgusting mess. A properly prepared Pizza Sub, on the other hand, is oven-baked ambrosia. To the layman, a pizza sub might have just looked like a regular frozen pizza, but instead of being laid out on a thin base, it was laid out on a thick, fluffy, frozen ‘submarine-style roll’ (well, the bottom half of one). So what, the layman would say.

The layman would be a damn fool.

That roll was the key. Instead of pulling out a pizza barely worthy of the name, the allotted fifteen minutes of cooking time would produce a perfectly-baked roll base — oh-so-crunchy on the outside, deliciously chewy and soft on the inside — topped with the finest-quality smooth and luscious tomato sauce, in turn spread with genuinely scrumptious cheese (oh so rare these days), succulent ham, and chunks of pineapple that would near melt in your mouth. Don't like Ham & Pineapple? That's fine, there were other flavours more to your liking, you can be sure of that. Everyone was happy.

Needless to say, something this good couldn't last. Soon enough, the base halved in size, the tomato paste turned radioactive, the cheese was replaced with awful plasticy crap, and they generally fucked the whole thing right up. Sales went down, and the McCain Pizza Sub became just another of the world's great treasures to be destroyed by the hand of man — just like the Dodo, the Tasmanian Tiger, and Shaun Micallef.

Triple Cheeseburgers
Most missed by: Andrew Jacobs

I know that if you go to McDonald's and ask them for a Triple Cheeseburger, they'll make one up for you, but they're not the same thing. The Triple Cheeseburger, to me, was the ultimate fast food hamburger. It had the meat-to-cheese-to-bun ratio just right. There shouldn't be as much bun as there is in a normal cheeseburger because it gets in the way of the rest of the flavours. The Triple Cheeseburger added more meat and more cheese and the resulting blend of half-melted cheese and freshly-cooked "meat" was masterful. It is sorely missed.

At some time in the eighties (1988, according to this site, but I don't really trust them, because they got the details of the promotion quite wrong, and they called brown Smarties "light" even though they're dark), Nestlé wanted to grab more market share with their delightful candy-covered chocolate treat, the Smartie (this was before M&Ms had fully taken hold). They decided to sacrifice one of the existing candy colours, and have a competition to replace it with a new colour. So, when you purchased a pack, you got to fill in a ballot ordering the colours from best to worst. The eventual result was that the blue Smartie was introduced as a regular colour, and the humble brown Smartie disappeared from this world.

At the time, my favourite colour was brown, but I knew that brown would do badly. I went and purchased packet after packet of Smarties and sent in my ballots, but the nation voted, and I was not in the final three. As a silent protest, I have never eaten a blue Smartie.

As my protest has since proven, we should never give up hope for these vanished foods, as, joy of joys, the brown Smartie has returned, to once again be consumed by myself and its many other fans! It jostles within the confines of its package with the evil blue Smartie, but one day it will rule the world, along with pizza subs, any number of McDonald's burgers, egg flip flavoured milk, aniseed tic-tacs, and muncheros. And I for one will be dancing in the streets.

To end, here's a little treat that I found whilst trawling the web for links to unavailable foods. It's an extraordinary bowl which is, quite simply, genius.

Have you tried the new Milo bar?? All I can say is bring back the old one!!
Posted by Nicole on Wed 22 Oct 2003 12:05 #
Oh boy, I have! It's actually not bad, but it's just not a milo bar. It's like they took the milo bar, and made it way more similar to every other chocolate bar out there.

The old one was just like they emptied a tin of milo onto a table, pounded it until it was in a firm little block, and then covered it with chocolate. After you'd chewed it a bit, you almost started to choke as it broke apart and turned into regular milo.. and I'll be damned if I can think of a better way to die than by choking on an old skool milo bar!
Posted by Nic (site) on Wed 22 Oct 2003 13:35 #

The new Milo bar is extremely average. I have not yet determined whether the old skool Milo bar has been terminated (I search for it at every servo I stop at to make sure that the line isn't discontinued and it was still making an appearance at a BP Express yesterday), but I damn well hope that it lives on. The old skool Milo bar was the next best thing to just spooning Milo out of the tin.

I hate all those foods that are in abundance out there that are not really foods at all. There are more packages (containing a small substance that tastes deadly and smells even worse) that are merely diguised as edible than real honest to goodness taste electrifying texture tinglying mouthwatering food. I am, of course, talking about any such item that is labelled as 97% fat free and the like.

Happy birthday Slither for the other day!

OK, so I had the new Milo bar yesterday.

The new Milo bar is a taste sensation. It has all the yumminess of Milo combined with the goodness of chocolate, and those little popply rice bubble things. It's all good.

Compared to the old Milo bar, though, it's like eating year-old dog shit.

The old Milo bar was truly da bomb.

What they need to do is clear: bring back the old Milo bar, call it "Milo Bar Classic". Rename the new one to "All-New Milo Bar Deluxe".

Then, to make shelf room for TWO Milo bars, they can fuck that waste of shelf space that is the Aero bar right off.

Everyone's happy!

NEVER!!!! MINT AERO IS KING!

also, new milo bar is rather average. especially since its now only one bar instead of two. i liked fooling myself into pretending i was getting real value - BOGOF, as they say!

Posted by josie on Thu 20 Nov 2003 21:53 #
Ahaha. Why were you searching for Rob Mills from Australian Idol, dickwhacker? The only possible excuse would be if you were trying to find his public appearance dates, so you could avoid those places on those days... but somehow I don't think that's it.

My most recent devastating loss of favourite food was when they stopped making Trolli gummy jelly beans - I kept searching at KMart for ages in the hope they were just out of stock... This was made worse by the sweet shop near where I work having a supply that I alone slowly ate through until they too ran out. I still live in hope but having looked on the trolli web site (http://www.trolli.de) I think it's time to move on to a new sweet snack...sigh...

Gummi jelly beans - sounds weird. I'm sorry to hear about your loss though!

At least I'm not the only person who believes aniseed tic tacs existed! I remember having some in around 1985 in northern France. I was about 8 years old so my memory is vague. I thought they were a light blue (or possibly pale green?) coloured rather than brown however.
Posted by Graham on Tue 8 Jun 2004 08:55 #
Hooray!!! someone else remebers muncheros. i thought i was the only one who knew they existed..once upon a time. two scores today. i found an old cartoon i loved - the cities of gold - with the golden condor.
im feeling very happy and nostalgic.

Hi peeps.. Searching for links for Egg Flip Big M has brought me to your site. Now I am sad because i remember Muncheros aswell and yes.. they too are sadly gone from the supermarket shelves. I think we need to get a petition going to bring back all our old classics. I know the company responsible for Big M.. it is National Foods Ltd. maybe we can start the "Egg Flip Movement" ! haha. i really miss it. Was my favourite big m ever.

Oh my, i have found my people. I want muncheros back, i have even checked ebay. The egg flip big m, i check every christmas in the hope they bring it back, as an eggnog like substitute, I miss the choc berry as well. By the way, if there was such a thing as aniseed tic tacs, i missed out, oh how tasty they would be. As for the tripple cheesburgers, they were so good, my mouth is watering, you just have to go in and order your cheeseburger with two extra patties and cheese, i know they at least put one on for me. i cant stop thinking about those little curls of crisp muncheros, i will find the company and approach them with my case.
Posted by nicole on Tue 19 Oct 2004 15:28 #
i think some of us have also forgotten about toobs. They were fantastic. The way they made your tongue fells, the flavour that stings if you have a cut in your mouth. oh yum.
Posted by nicole on Tue 19 Oct 2004 15:35 #
I'm sure you can still get Toobs. I had them not too long ago.

I also missed Lolly Gobble Bliss Bombs for a while, but you can get various no-name type versions of the sweet coated popcorn variety, so that'll do. The LGBB box is sorely missed though, it had "Open other side" on both sides! Classic.

Hi there, I have been haunted lately with the fact that I can't find toobs anymore, n0t to mention I was craving them during my pergnancy, so I found out that the company called "smiths" did make them but don't any more. :( So I rang this morning and asked what we I could do to get them to make them again and they said not much unless they heard alot of people wanted them. So I left info that i do want them back. If you guys want them back, go to 'smiths.com.au' and drop them a line about how much we want them back (even if it's just for a special). You never know, it just might work.

Dear Everyone who loves TOOBS! this is the response that we have received from SMITHS.

Dear Adam and Wayne,

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding Toobs. The Smith's Snackfood Company welcomes consumer feedback as a means of assessing the quality and acceptability of our products and services in the market place, and we appreciate the opportunity to respond to your query.

Our research has shown that consumer preference for this product had declined, while demand for our other products had increased. Consequently, to continue production of the product would not have been economically viable and thus, Toobs were deleted from our range.

I will pass your comments onto our marketing team. Once again thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Consumer Response Team.

OK, I was sufuring the web with very little hope of finding anything on Toobs and then "OH MY GOD" it was like God himself appeared. I never knew there was such a following. I must confuse I'm not actually the Toob fan but my "Bloody Husband" will not shut up about them. He has fallen into a deep state of depression since his most loved Toobs were taken from the shelves. PLEASE....BRING BACK THE BLOODY TOOBS.......I CAN'T HANDLE SEEING A GROWN MAN CRY ANY LONGER. I will dutifully be sending off my interest to Smiths to bring back Toobs. Please everyone, do the same and spread the word. If we "increase the consumer demand" then they will have to surrender Toobs back to the public.
PS: Anyone tried the healthy faux Toobs from Melb?

I used to buy them from the school canteen everytime i got some lunch money and i loved them!!! but when i try to tell people about them they can never remember them until i was in the grocery store trying to choose a packet of chips that both my friend and i liked and we discovered that the only chips that we've ever really liked and would choose above any other chip was toobs!!! now i finally have someone i can reminisce with about the good old days when toobs were around. I think I may make a t-shirt that says 'bring back the toob' and wear it around Australia. Recent discussions relating to Toobs have led to the conclusion that anyone who is anyone in this world loves the Toob. Bizarrely, while discussing Toobs and their general deliciousness, a delivery man walked into my office, overheard our conversation and said "I used to be a Toob distributor around Queensland"!!!! Apparently they were more popular in the Southern States... the closest to Toob action I have come across since the sudden and premature disappearance of the Toob has been 'Burger Men', which come closer to replicating the texture of the Toob than anything else I have found. Why do all the good things die young????????

Ahhh!!! This isn't the first time i've googled for Toobs! But, it is the first time i've arrived here, so I thought I'd leave my input :)
I too was a toobs fan... I remember I would go to the milkbar with my best friend after school and buy an icecream (bubble-o-bill) and a packet of toobs each.. they were so great... so great. :(
I want them back!!! If they brought them back they wouldn't be the same, I just know it.. Like burger rings.. they are much smaller and harder, yuck these days!!! ... But, I too shall contact Smiths in order to show my support for toobs!!

As for the fake toobs.. I saw them!!! Or at least another type? I remember, It was in Box Hill or Whitehorse centro in Melbourne... I looked down at a clear packet of chips which looked like toobs.. and said "BBQ Toobs" ... and I froze for a second. And stared.. and wondered. But then I lowered my hopes again and decided that they couldn't possibly be the same... and I walked away :(

But, I'll be sure to buy some next week and try them... I'll post again after :) Stay strong...

Hi all,
I went to Nut Shack and grabbed some of their "BBQ Tubes" on the weekend, and gave them a shot. The flavour is fairly different to what I remember Toobs being (a bit stronger, I think), but the texture is a pretty good match. Should be able to at least halfway satisfy your cravings.
If you wanna give them a go, here's a list of store locations for Nut Shack (looks like they're mainly in Victoria at the moment, but also some stores in Queensland and NSW):

Enjoy!

OH MY GOD i agree with the MILO BAR!!! they need to bring back a classic version. Everyone I've spoken to wants the old one back..that is all the info i need to know that there should be no reason why they left us with the new weak excuse for a replacement!

Next with the TOOBS! I have never forgotten them. The day I realised they were not being sold anymore was when I began my mourning..which continues to today. I also thought I may have been imagining them and have been talking about both these and milo bars lately and it was by pure mistake I stumbled across ths site.

WARNING: DO NOT BUY THE TOOB LOOK ALIKES! They suck! I bought this packet off barbecue ring things (I've seen them being sold in various supermarkets/fruit n veg shops) that were supposed to be like toobs. Hmm NO! Nothing compares to the real toobs. Although purchases of toobs may have slowed in the past I think they'd do well now...I don't even care if they are called toobs call them something else but I want my TOOBS :'(. How can I fulfill the craving for toobs when they no longer exist..not even anything close exists! Ahh! So does anyone know if there are chips that come close because all ive found are toob wannabes not worthy of even the ugliest of cockroaches lol.

This is in regars to Tasty Toobs... Now i am 100% for the return of Tasty Toobs but for those who live in Australia there are these BBQ tubes sold at most fruit and veg stores that are... I AM 100% SERIOUS... The exact copy of those tasty treats.. its like there back... so if you live in Australia see if you can get them.... There the closest thing to them. YOU HAVE TO TRY THEM TO BELIEVE ME!!!!!

WOW!!!! there really are so many people that i know and that i've seen of that want Toobs back, and they actually think that no one will buy them???? Honestly!!!!
I've just found a cheap (well actually, its hardly cheap) substitute for Toobs which are nothing in comparrison really, but i still cant help but want more since i cant get real toobs. Its plain old unfair!! i honestly cant believe that other varieties of their products sell over toobs, i never really liked cheezles for example, how can they get rid of something as good as toobs. i'm going to send an email to the company and tell them, not only are we involved in that petition, but i'm going to give them a link to this forum, and then they can see just how much people rave on about them and that we want them back..

Here's the response I got:

Dear Robbo,

Thank you for your recent enquiry. The Smith's Snackfood Company welcomes
consumer feedback as a means of assessing the quality and acceptability of our
products and services in the market place, and we appreciate the opportunity to
respond to your query.

The Toobs product was deleted a number of years ago. Our research had shown that
consumer preference for this product had declined, while demand for our other
products had increased. In simple terms. the number of consumers who were
purchasing Toobs had decreased to such a low level that to continue production
would not have been economically viable and thus, we deleted it from our range.

We note your feedback that there are are a number of loyal Toobs consumers who
would like to see this product return. We regularly review our range and will
take your feedback into consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Consumer Response Team

Toobs are the greatest packet of chips i have ever or will ever taste. 'Burger Man" have a similar taste but still nothing compares to the original Toobs. I will be testing out the fake Toobs but i dont like my chances. I say we all flood The Smiths Company with e-mails demanding they bring Toobs back. You never know what might happen.
Posted by John6413 on Tue 22 Nov 2005 10:25 #
I don't suppose we could all chip in and buy the recipe for Toobs from Smiths? Even the spice ingredients would be nice to sprinkle over hot chips, grilled chicken, ice cream (for the pregnant ladies). If they refuse to make them then this is the least they can do.

It's great to see that I'm not the only one who has egg-flip Big M cravings, and I was devastated when I went back to the one place in Melbourne where I could guarantee to get it, since it seems that no one else ever shops there, and even they were out of it too, along with Dr Pepper and the original Milo bars. So, I've gone back to eating it straight out of the tin.

But I've got some bad news... My best friend works for Cadbury Schweppes and he knows the brand manager at National Foods, and apparently they've decided that egg flip Big M will never, ever come out again. Apparently it simply doesn't have a large enough market for it to be worthwhile making it. And the same thing with Dr Pepper too. Schweppes still has the rights to it here, but because no one drinks it they don't see the point of actually making it. So, I've asked my friend to ask the National Foods guy, seeing they aren't going to make it anymore, whether they can publish the egg flip recipe so that we can make it at home. Doesn't seem likely, seeing I don't imagine all those flavours and colourings are too easy to come by, but you never know!

I haven't read all the posts here but in regards to Toobs, you can buy something similar called BBQ Tubes. These are exactly the same as the old Smiths Tasty Toobs and are made by a company called Snack Lover's (7/92 Killara Road, CAMPBELLFIELD VIC 3061. Ph: 03 9357 9690). You can buy them at most Fruit n Veg stores, IGA or Foodland.

Hi Nicloe

My friend and i were looking up Muncheros and your site popped up. What and excellent tribute to food of the past!

Cheers

I miss Toobs, Muncheros and the original Milo bars also!
I remember mum buying the multipack toobs from the supermarket and taking them to school in my lunchbox!
Does anyone remember some of the discontinued icecream lines such as Dude Food (a choc banana icecream on a stick), the original Scribblers (ice block with the chocolate ball on top) and OJs (orange flavoured ice block-the best ever!!!)?
Then there's the discontinued lollies. I remember something called a Pink Panther (I think) and it was the same looking bar as your Redskin Bars and Toffee Apple Bars but it was pink and was musk flavoured. There was also a Chew Chew Bar with a train on the wrapper but that was licorice flavoured so I don't miss that one. I also remember getting a Roy of the Rovers bar in a showbag when I was younger and it was pineapple flavoured. Delicious!
Why do these companies do this to us? We fall in love with the tastes of their products and then they take them away forever and leave us with only the memories. It's cruel!
But thanks for the tribute to these products on this website. It was interesting to read that other people miss and have cravings for these products too!

I am at work and just cried my eyes out laughing for about 15 minutes straight having read this. I came to this site because a few collegues recently went to Melbourne and bought the BBQ Tubes which I must say do taste like Toobs although they didnt burn my mouth at all. So we all started doing searches for Toobs which led me here to this website.
Burger Man chips are a good substiute for Toobs they are so addictive.
The new Milo bar cannot replace the old Milo bar. Its so sad, I LOVE the old Milo bar.
Does anyone eat those sour worms from Trolli? Does anyone remember they also used to have sour eggs? They were the best and they dont make them anymore :(
Posted by Natalie on Mon 19 Jun 2006 15:29 #
I also just cried reading this! It makes me feel okay about obsessing over never-to-be-seen-again snackfood. The reason I am here is because I have had this intense craving for toobs all of a sudden and thought I'd check google to see if they made them anymore. Low and behold I found a shite load of peeps just like me! Has anyone died from a craving? I think I just might and then Smiths will have blood on there chippy hands! Muncheros were lush too! I would buy a bag every time I had a shift at woolies as a checkout chic in highschool. They got me through those long hours at $4.50 an hour! they were soft yet hard, cold yet warm. The amount of cheesy residue that was left on your fingers was awesome. you had to scrape it off with your teeth!!! I am feeling a little crazy now, i should end this.

Wow, i'm soooo glad toobs weren't a figment of my imagination!!! I first recall eating the tangy toob at a sleep over when i was a kid and i thought maybe i had just imagined that they existed. i would give anything to eat a pack of toobs again, which is why i have signed the petition :) Also does anyone remeber chickadees???????? i loved those tasty chicken snacks and would also give anything to get them back too!!!! Furthermore when craving tomato flavour i can't go past the tomato flavoured smiths chips that no longer exist :( and yeah Dr pepper rocks!!!!!! you can buy this yummy drink from the lolly shop in lygon street... for a price. I'm soooo glad i could get all of that off my chest :) thanks heaps and this site rocks!!!!!

Would absolutely love to have a party and offer my guests the old favourites like chicken cackles and egg flip big M for sure! I also wondered about Toobs and what about skona ice cream (blobs of apricot)mmmmmmmmmm and also TOFFEE LOG (my god!). Another lollie I miss was those little humprey bears which were chewy chocolatey with that yummy tiny black nose! remember them????
Posted by narelle on Mon 10 Jul 2006 18:07 #
Tasty Toobs cained your mouth but they were worth it every time, I thought maybe taht was the reason they came of the market - too many people showing up at causalty with 3rd degrees acid burns to their mouths still cluching at their half eaten bag of TT and refusing to give them up. I also miss White-Whip Milky Ways so good were they, Tangy Tomato flavoured Twisties and Nik Naks
Posted by B on Tue 18 Jul 2006 16:33 #
i'm so glad that i'm not the only one who thinks the new milo bar is crap. vote one for milo classic.

the other bar that i would love to eat again was brought out by WONKA and it was a chocolate bar with pop rocks in it or something because when you ate it, it popped in your mouth. they were awesome. and if anyone knows where to get chew chew bars in the melbourne area PLEASE let me know. mum keeps going on about them and i've NEVER had one.

finally, i dont know if anyone has ever had any before but there are caramel M&M's - sort of like the crispy ones but with a caramel centre. i was so excited when i saw they were releasing a new type of m&m in aus because the green lady m&m is the very same mascot they use for the mint crispy ones here. talk about an anticlimax :(

ATTENTION ALL SMITHS TOOB LOVERS

Last week I brought a packet of Kettles 'Herb & Spices' chips. As soon as i ate the first chip, memories of this taste came flooding back. It took me a week and 8 packets to remember where I had enjoyed this taste sensation before.....TOOBS.....how could I have forgotten about this snack I loved so much as a child. The chip that looked like a cheezle but had so much more to offer the tast buds. So I jumped on to google and typed in TOOBS ( I wasn't sure if I had spelt it correctly ), and here I am. I could not believe that there was so many people who also remembered the delights of this snack food.
So if you would like to experience the taste of the TOOB, then I urge you to run out now and buy yourself a packet of 'KETTLE'S HERB & SPICE', you wont regret it.

OMG!! I love you people. I love MUNCHEROS and the ORIGINAL MILO BAR. I was talking to my boyfriend about it just now and he didnt remember either of them. I signed the 'toobs' petition, can anyone make a Milo Bar one, and a Muncheros one? I have no idea how they could have taken them off the market. We (my brothers and I) used to buy mucheros like they were going out of fashion.... and then one day, they were gone. I totally agree with Paul who said:

What they need to do is clear: bring back the old Milo bar, call it "Milo Bar Classic". Rename the new one to "All-New Milo Bar Deluxe".

Truer words have never been spoken, my friend.

Toobs! Found at Park Street Convenience Shop in Park Street, Sydney CBD. Between Hyde Park and Town Hall.

But only about 2 packets left after I hoarded what I wanted.

I'll be in that part of town tomorrow, and I reckon I'll drop in to snap up what is left!

I've found them in ONE shop in the biggest city in Australia. Let's build up a list of TOOBS sources!

Huzzah - Toobs are really and truly back - though who knows whether they'll stick around?

Some people received the news via email:

Due to popular demand Toobs are back!!!

Toobs are the original, tasty, saucy bite size snack that you will remember and love!!

Available from October in a 35g bag. Grab yourself a pack from petrol stations, convenience stores, Franklins, selected IGA Supermarkets as well as Smith's Vending Machines.

I personally found them today in a little milk bar in Carlton - a massive bunch of them in a "Back by popular demand!" cardboard display cabinet. Oh happy day!

I remember these, and oddly, used to love them, but after trying to buy some more, I am starting to think these were actually Cinnamon Tic Tacs ???

On the subject of aniseed tic tacs. I remember these as a little kid in the early to mid 80,s here in Australia. They originaly came in a brown packet and then later they changed it to a blue packet. Then in the late 80.s they dissappeared.

I also remember as a little kid the two flavour packets. I think they had lime on one side and manderine on the other.

Cinnamon tic tacs are available here in Australia but only in special sweet shops who import them from the USA. They A$3.50 a pac though.

Also a couple of new flavours have just been released here: PASSIONFRUIT MINT and also LEMON MINT
